Anthony Edwards and Team USA have begun their quest for gold, starting with exhibition games to gear up for the real competition. The official games begin on July 28th against Serbia, marking the start of the group stage. Team USA is in a group with Serbia, South Sudan, and Puerto Rico.

Minnesota Timberwolves Superstar Anthony Edwards wants to take on Swimming

It’s not just basketball taking center stage this summer. Athletes from around the globe are fiercely competing in 31 different sports, all vying for the coveted gold medal. From canoeing to gymnastics, the race for the top spot is on in a wide array of events.

Anthony Edwards has expressed interest in trying his hand at another sport (sarcastically). When asked which event he would compete in if given the chance to swim at the Olympics, he didn’t hesitate. “Freestyle,” he said confidently, adding that he would undoubtedly be the fastest swimmer on the basketball team.

Q: If you could swim in an event at the Olympics. What event would be yours?

A: Freestyle for sure. I’m probably the fastest swimmer on the team. Just look at that lineup—Embiid, AD, Bam—they’re not swimming fast. KD, Kawhi, Tatum—they’re not fast swimmers at all. My only challenges might be Jimmy, but he might not know how to swim. And Halliburton? Oh my God, Halliburton needs me to never touch water.

We’ve seen this side of Anthony Edwards before. In his well-known interview with Marney Gelner, Edwards confidently stated that he could excel in just about any sport, dubbing himself “A1 from Day 1.” That’s where that nickname originated.

I’m sure many of us would love to see Anthony Edwards display his skills in another sport someday, but for now, he’s shining as one of the top basketball players in the world. Timberwolves fans should truly appreciate having him on their team.
