The Minnesota Wild have officially launched their 2024-25 preseason. The regular season is set to begin on October 10th, when the Wild open things up vs their former head coach Dean Evason and the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Unfortunately, there was some disappointing news from the Wild’s practice today. The team is already grappling with a significant injury to one of their top players, Matt Boldy.

Minnesota Wild star Matt Boldy week to week with a lower body injury

The Minnesota Wild shared the news on social media. It’s a lower-body injury, apparently. And it isn’t very minor. They’ve labeled his status as week-to-week, which puts his status for next month’s opener very much in question.

Wild head coach John Hynes was optimistic regarding Boldy’s status for opening night, when addressing media Monday. Apparently, Boldy was unaware of how significant his injury was, as recent as Saturday evening.

The 2019 first round pick participated in practice and even hit the gym on Saturday. All while he had this significant “lower body” injury. Sounds a lot like what happened to JJ McCarthy, but that’s reckless speculation.

Boldy had an impressive last season (2023-24), wrapping up with 29 goals and 40 assists in 75 games for the Wild. In 2023, he signed a seven-year contract extension that will keep him with the team until the end of the 2029-2030 season.
