Minnesota Wild Recall Two Veterans + Good News on Brock Faber and Filip Gustavsson
The Minnesota Wild have been quite the surprise to this point in the season. Despite dealing with dead cap implications and an uncertain roster, they have been one of the NHL’s best teams. They also continue to stockpile injured players.
Injury updates provide optimism for Minnesota Wild
Wednesday against the Florida Panthers, without goalie Filip Gustavsson and defensemen Jake Middleton, the Minnesota Wild were trounced 6-1. The result was bad enough, but in even worse news that night, defensemen Brock Faber landed in the hospital, after catching a puck to the throat.
Thankfully, Faber’s injury did not end up being serious. Not only is he okay, but he is back skating with his teammates, and according to Wild head coach John Hynes, the Minnesota native will play tonight vs the Utah Hockey Club.

I can’t imagine the Minnesota native would ever opt in to a puck taking a puck to the throat, but he has to be happy there’s no long term issue, and that he won’t have to miss time.
After finishing runner-up for the Calder Memorial Trophy last season, Faber has three goals and 14 assists in 32 games this year. His plus-minus is strong at 12, and he has blocked 42 shots while averaging slightly more ice time.
Brock Faber and Filip Gustavsson return to ice
Minnesota Wild starting goaltender Filip Gustavsson has missed three-straight games, with a mysterious lower body injury. He too returned to the practice ice, ahead of Friday game. The veteran goalie has made 22 starts for the Wild this season. His .922 save percentage is inching closer to the .931 career-year from 2022-23.
Yakov Trenin and Joel Eriksson Ek just went onto the ice toward end of morning skate. Filip Gustavsson also out there. So #mnwild players could be returning soon. I’m sure with break coming up it makes sense to be careful with all or some and wait

His return could mean that rookie netminder Jesper Wallstedt gets sent back to Iowa. The top goalie prospect took on NHL loss during Gustavsson’s absence. Wallstedt allowed three goals, in his first NHL start of the year.
Veteran help on the way for Wild
The Minnesota Wild added a pair of veteran bodies to the NHL roster, as well. Until players like Joel Eriksson Ek and Yakov Trenin are cleared for a return, John Hynes needs healthy options. Travis Boyd and Devin Shore provide that answer… for now.

Boyd is a 31-year-old center that has played in two games for the Wild this season. He has averaged 7:39 minutes on the ice in those contests and has a single shot attempt with a pair of blocks.

Shore is a 30-year-old Canadian in his first season with the Wild. He has played 13 games already but has averaged just 8:11 minutes on the ice. He has 16 shot attempts with 10 shots on goal. Shore has yet to record a point and has a neutral plus-minus.
