In completely unexpected, and absolutely tragic fashion, the Minnesota Vikings offensive line coach, Tony Sparano, passed away early Sunday morning.

The following Tweets from Adam Schefter provide further clarity regarding Sparano’s death:

Tony Sparano’s professional coaching career started in 1999 with the Browns organization. After spending a few seasons in Cleveland, the University of New Haven alum joined Bill Parcells’ Dallas staff prior to the 2003 campaign.

During his first four years in Dallas, Sparano established a strong relationship with another one of the Cowboys assistant coaches:

The Connecticut native’s most notable gig came as the Miami Dolphins head coach (2008-11). From there, after bouncing between the Jets, Raiders, and 49ers, Sparano was hired by Mike Zimmer & Co. during the 2016 offseason.

While it’s evident that Vikings will need to find someone to coach the offensive line, which may be a tall task this season, that’s a talker for another day. Right now, Tony’s family and friends will be in our thoughts and prayers. The terribly sad passing of Tony Sparano reminds us that life is a hell of a lot bigger than sports.
