There are less than 90 days until the 2020 NFL season begins. Every fan base is optimistic about how their favorite team will start and finish the year. The Minnesota Vikings faithful are no different.
No one knows how the season will unfold for their team, however… except for me. I am a time traveler from the future and I’m here to tell you how the Vikings will fair in the NFC North. You’re welcome.
(disclaimer: this time traveler brings no advice for coronavirus… you’re on your own, there)

What is going to be the toughest and easiest four game stretch in 2020? pic.twitter.com/zvEZtiLtyL
Weeks 1-4
The first quarter of the season is perfectly balanced with two home games and two road games.
The first game of the year is against the disgusting cheese heads from Green Bay, at US Bank Stadium. Thankfully, the Vikings have a track record of performing very well at home during noon games. With Aaron Rodgers slinging the rock, Mike Zimmer’s young secondary should get a good test right out of the gate . The Vikings win the season opener, in a very close game, that will test our anxiety levels early.
We then face three straight AFC South opponents. The purple win both, but ultimately lose to Houston in week 4.
Weeks 5-9
The second quarter of the season will prove the Vikings as contenders… even though it starts off rocky. Week 5 is another prime time game in Seattle, where the Vikings have lost six straight games to the Seahawks.
The last time they beat them was during the 2009 season, and unfortunately, the “Winless in Seattle” streak will continue in 2020. The Seahawks will hand the Vikings their second loss of the year.
Weeks 6, 8 and 9 consist of match ups with the Falcons, Packers and Lions. Minnesota will beat down the dirty birds of Atlanta in a shootout, but lose to the Packers in week 8, coming out of the bye. That means an even season series vs Green Bay.
Detroit is week 9 and, well… the Lions still play there. After the Vikings secure a W, they finish the first half of the season with a 5-3 record and the playoffs well within reach.
Weeks 10-13
Weeks 10-13 will be a fun stretch of games, which results in four key wins for the purple (and a total 6-game winning streak). They travel first to Chicago, on Monday Night Football, before a three game home-stand against Dallas, Carolina and Jacksonville.
In those four games, we will see Zimmer’s new defense gain its footing and the 2020 Vikings take off… They are now 9-3, entering the home stretch!
Weeks 14-17
Week 14 vs Tampa Bay will be a tough one, with Tom Brady and the Buccaneers ultimately coming out on top. It was a good run, but winning streaks can’t last forever. After that loss, the Vikes will beat da Bears. and climb to double-digit wins on the season.
Then, it’s an NFC wildcard rematch vs the Saints on Christmas Day. With Kyle Rudolph “the red zone reindeer” leading the way, the Vikings win again in the Superdome.
The Vikings stroll into Detroit for week 17, with home-field and possible 1st-round bye implications. The Lions (as stated earlier) are still the Lions and have nothing to play for, by this point, meaning the matchup is another easy win vs the blue and silver, for Mike Zimmer.
When the season is all said and done, the Vikings win the NFC North with a 12-4 record and they get to play home games in the playoffs. I am a little higher on the purple and gold, than my Twitter followers apparently…
Team | Wins | Losses |
Minnesota Vikings | 12 | 4 |
Green Bay Packers | 9 | 7 |
Chicago Bears | 5 | 11 |
Detroit Lions | 3 | 13 |
How many wins will the Vikings have in 2020?

As for the playoffs? It’s going to be tough to not see any of the Vikings players participating in the Pro Bowl. Instead they will be preparing to take on Lamar Jackson and the Ravens in Tampa Bay, for the Super Bowl! You’re on your own after that.
