So you want to make a deal? At least that’s the question the Minnesota Vikings are asking themselves right about now. The trade deadline is quickly approaching and they are well-positioned amongst the playoff contenders in the NFC, and had previously been listed as ‘buyers’.

Adding an impact defender, probably on the line, and maybe one other piece, was probably their plan of attack. But then Christian Darrisaw went down for the season against the Los Angeles Rams, adding left tackle to the deadline shopping list, as well.

Opposition could have the Minnesota Vikings answer at left tackle

In choosing to part ways with Kirk Cousins and Danielle Hunter this offseason, the Vikings afforded themselves plenty of flexibility. We saw that in the form of Stephon Gilmore’s addition. It also allows them options at the trade deadline. The Athletic’s Alec Lewis offered a couple of intriguing fits that could be had in dealing with other teams.

“If the Vikings look externally, the Jaguars’ Cam Robinson, the Browns’ Jedrick Wills and the Titans’ Daniel Brunskill could be rental options before next week’s trade deadline.”

Great tackles are harder to come by than guards, but just last season the Vikings dealt Ezra Cleveland. They have Dalton Risner at their disposal once again this year, but now need the tackle help. There is plenty of reason to believe each of the rental options that Lewis mentions will be available.

With the assumption that Darrisaw recovers just fine, Minnesota isn’t in a position where they need to cover the future either. Among the names that Lewis mentions, Robinson is probably the cream of the crop. The problem? The Minnesota Vikings have already auctioned off most of their draft capital for next season.

There are a handful of free agent options that would fit in Minnesota. Those they are eyeing include David Bahktiari, D.J. Humprhies, or Charles Leno Jr. can stay on the field. The Vikings are reportedly exploring internal choices as well.

The reality is that Minnesota can afford to add virtually anyone they want, from a compensation standpoint, but they don’t want to clog up their 2025 books either. We probably won’t see the Vikings tip their hand until after the Indianapolis Colts game. From there though, any potential move could come quickly.
