Chatter Around Minnesota Vikings Signing Daniel Jones is Getting Louder

Where will Daniel Jones sign? That is the hot topic currently circulating through text messages circles between NFL insiders and their sources, especially those who have plants close to the former New York Giants quarterback, and/or inside the organizations in which Jones’ representation is speaking with… including the Minnesota Vikings.

Rumors connecting Jones to Minnesota sprouted up nearly immediately after the Giants waived him last week. Shortly after, additional reporting revealed the Vikings as a front runner for Jones’ services. Kevin O’Connell met with local media members on Monday, and only added fuel to the Vikings + Daniel Jones fire.

Daniel Jones decision coming soon and Minnesota Vikings chatter is getting loud

Tuesday morning, ‘one of us’ Tom Pelissero (NFL Network) made an appearance on the Power Trip Morning Show (KFAN Radio), where he told the morning crew that Jones is expected to make his decision today.

According to Darren Wolfson (KSTP), later on Tuesday morning, during a regularly scheduled Scoop session on Mackey & Judd (SKOR North), the Minnesota Vikings have been in contact with Daniel Jones, who has a handful of suitors, including the Detroit Lions, Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens, among others.

“I was told the Vikings, at least one team official, had a conversation with Daniel Jones, last night. So, it came out over the weekend that the Vikings are in the mix. The Ravens are in the mix. I was told the Lions have made a phone call.

There are six or seven teams trying to sign Daniel Jones. The Vikings are one of those teams. Keep in mind, the Vikings have an excellent relationship with his representation at Athletes First. The Vikings have a nice little connection too with, you think about Kyle Rudolph, friends with Daniel Jones; former New York Giants teammate.

They have that agency connection. Just some things to think about. You know, the Vikings are in the mix. We should get some closure on this relatively soon. [It] doesn’t mean he’s coming here, but the Vikings absolutely do want Daniel Jones.”

Is Jones going to sign with the Vikings?

There are also multiple indications on social media, via non-traditional outlets like our friends at The Purple Persuasion, who claim to be hearing that the Vikings are nearing a deal with the 27-year-old former No. 6 overall pick.

Of course, until an Adam Schefter or Ian Rapoport reports it, we will all be left wondering what is real and what isn’t. But without a doubt, the Minnesota Vikings have an extremely good chance of signing Daniel Jones. And if they do, it’s most likely be at some point, on Tuesday. In 10 games with the Giants this season, Jones compiled 2,070 yards on 216-of-341 (63.3%) passing, for 8 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. If he signs, the former Duke Blue Devil will not be QB1 competition for Sam Darnold. He would, however, provide one hell of an insurance plan for the Vikings quarterback situation, both now and in the future.

During six seasons in the NFL, Jones has thrown for 14,582 yards, 70 touchdowns and 47 interceptions (64.1 cmp%). His best season was 2022, when he threw for 3,205 yards, 15 touchdowns and 5 interceptions. Last year, while struggling through injuries, Daniel Jones posted 909 yards, just 2 touchdowns and 6 interceptions.
