It is Wednesday of week 7 and the Minnesota Vikings are preparing for the biggest matchup of the season, a noon tilt on Sunday vs the (4-1) Detroit Lions. Yes, the early-season NFC North crown is on the line, but so is control of the NFC playoff race.

The biggest problems facing the Vikings this week surround various injuries across the roster. RB Aaron Jones was supposedly dealing with a hip injury. We found out with the Vikings injury report on Wednesday that it is actually a hamstring injury. Of course, that’s something many people believed from the beginning.

Meanwhile, TE TJ Hockenson is eligible to be activated off the PUP List. Unfortunately, it’s unclear if Kevin O’Connell and team doctors will want to play him to play in two games, with only four days break in-between. Remember, the Vikings play next Thursday night, too.

Injury questions run much deeper for the Minnesota Vikings, than just offense. ILB Blake Cashman is expected to miss the Lions game. Kevin O’Connell did, however, leave the door open for a miraculous recovery from his turf toe injury. Minnesota’s head coach refused to rule him out during his Wednesday press conference.

Then, later in the afternoon, the Vikings official early-week injury report dropped. It included five players who did not practice at all on Wednesday, including the aforementioned Jones and Cashman. They were joined on the sideline or in the training room by CB Akayleb Evans, EDGE Patrick Jones II and iDL Harrison Phillips.

The only two players listed as ‘limited’ were PUP participants, TJ Hockenson and G Dalton Risner. WR Theo Jackson and TE Josh Oliver were also listed, but as full participants.

Aaron Jones spoke with reporters on Wednesday and told them that he feels good, and that he hopes to be back at practice on Thursday, in one form or another. Darren Wolfson (SKOR North) said earlier in the week that Harrison Phillips is expected to go, though it’s not a surprise to see that he didn’t practice today.
