Wait… the Minnesota Vikings Eat How Many Uncrustables?
The Minnesota Vikings have one of the oldest rosters in the NFL. That doesn’t stop them from eating like your average household toddler. Nutrition is among the most important aspects of being a professional athlete, but Smuckers’ Uncrustables have become a great grab-and-go snack.
Often times there is hard-hitting journalism that carries sports leagues. Other times there is behind-the-scenes action that reminds us we are all human. No one actually likes a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with the crust. You local bread supplier never figured out how to address that problem so Smuckers handled it instead. Kevin O’Connell’s team devours those tasty sandwiches at an otherwise alarming rate.
Minnesota Vikings winning the Uncrustables battle
There are any number of quick snacks that make sense within the realm of sports. Pouch-type foods have become a staple for more than just babies. Uncrustables may be the most notable snack of substance, and the Minnesota Vikings are bought in. The Athletic published an article defining them as “childhood wrapped in plastic.” The actual numbers are staggering.
“But based on the information collected, it’s safe to say that NFL teams go through anywhere from 3,600 to 4,300 Uncrustables a week. When you factor in training camps and the teams that did not share their data, NFL teams easily go through at least 80,000 Uncrustables a year.”

Team | Uncrustables Eaten (Weekly) |
Denver Broncos | 700 |
Seattle Seahawks | 320 |
Jacksonville Jaguars | 315 |
Miami Dolhpins | 300 |
Atlanta Falcons | 250 |
New York Giants | 240 |
Pittsburgh Steelers | 225 |
Minnesota Vikings | 200 |
I have questions. First and foremost, what are the Denver Broncos doing? I realize this is 2023 data, but 700 Uncrustables a week is probably enough to keep Smuckers in business on their own. Sean Payton, who is a fun-hater, has to be cutting down on that amount. He’ll probably blame that hangover on Nathaniel Hackett. 150-plus seems like an average amount, so the Minnesota Vikings fall into that realm. The New Orleans Saints and Cincinnati Bengals only ate 50 Uncrustables each per week last season. Do their players have childhood trauma?

No matter how you cut it, and you don’t have to without a crust, the Vikings love their quick-and-easy peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
Uncrustables started in Minnesota Vikings territory
Not only do the Minnesota Vikings consume a significant amount of Uncrustables, but they are supporting a local inventor. Len Kretchman of Fergus Falls, MN is a co-inventor of the product. He is probably more than thrilled to know that his local football team is fueled by his creation.
“We’re not recreating the atomic bomb here. We’re trying to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich … It was two people standing there, goofing off, probably having a beer and a glass of wine and saying, ‘What do you think of this?’”
