Former Minnesota Vikings Safety Signed to Eagles Active Playoff Roster
It’s almost here, the first round of the 2024-25 NFL Playoffs is nearly upon us. Of course, we all know that our Minnesota Vikings will play the Los Angeles Rams. We do not know if the game will take place in Inglewood (CA) or Glenwood (AZ), depending on what happens over the next 48-72 hours with the ongoing California wildfires.
But there are six other teams in the NFC bracket alone, who are hoping to finish their season with a Super Bowl ring. In fact, one former Minnesota Vikings safety has found his way onto an active NFL playoff roster, and the name may surprise you.
Lewis Cine signed for Philadelphia Eagles playoff game
That’s right… former 2022 1st round pick, Lewis Cine, was swiped off the Buffalo Bills practice squad by the Philadelphia Eagles on Wednesday, after the Bills did the same thing to the New York Jets in early December. That means our old friend Lewis Cine is about to be active for a Philadelphia Eagles wildcard game vs the Green Bay Packers on Sunday at 3:30 PM CT.

The Minnesota Vikings released Lewis Cine at the end of training camp, this summer. After some troubles deciding where he wanted to play, Cine eventually ended up on the New York Jets practice squad for the start of the 2024 regular season. But being on a practice squad is pretty much the same as being in free agency.

If a team wants to sign you, they can offer a contract. If said deal is signed… poof… they’re gone from the originating team. Signing a player off someone else’s practice squad, however, means they must be placed on the new team’s active roster. Thus, Lewis Cine will be suited up for the Eagles on Sunday.

What has the Minnesota Vikings former 1st round pick been up to?
The former No. 32 overall pick out of Georgia did not get a defensive snap in the one game he was active for Buffalo earlier this year, after they signed him off the Jets practice squad. He did get 16 snaps on special teams, though. They came mostly between kick return (8) and kick coverage (6).
That makes for 11 total NFL games on Lewis Cine’s resume… where he has totalled one defensive tackle, on ten snaps. Most of Cine’s regular season snaps have come on special teams.

In his career, according to PFF, Cine has seen 134 special teams snaps, 118 of which came as a member of the Minnesota Vikings. We’ll see if he adds some postseason reps to that resume this weekend, when the Eagles play the Packers.
