There were recent rumblings about the happiness level of Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jordan Addison. He squashed those rumors and suggested all is well. That doesn’t mean there aren’t eyebrows to be raised by his production. He probably knows that’s the case as well.

Make no mistake, the Minnesota Vikings are Justin Jefferson’s team. When clicking though, Jordan Addison helps to present one of football’s best one-two punches at the wide receiver position. Both in the time he has missed, and the lack of production when available, Addison hasn’t really clicked in 2024.

Minnesota Vikings should look Jordan Addison’s way

Although it’s quarterbacks who get paid, there may be no bigger divas in the NFL than wide receivers. Sometimes their complaints are warranted. Other times they are not. The Vikings second-year wide receiver has just 14 receptions this year, and Jordan Addison has generated just 231 yards. It’s not as though he hasn’t generated opportunity however.

The ability to generate a level of rapport with a quarterback is imperative. Addison has missed time both in practice and during games this season. Sam Darnold’s comfort level with his top option is certainly there, and it seems like he has a strong willingness to spread things around as well. That doesn’t mean this is isolated, or that Darnold shouldn’t be turning his head more.

“Jordan Addison was unguardable in Week 4. Addison produced separation on all nine of his opportunities in Week 4.”

This week the Vikings offense should be infused with another threat in the form of T.J. Hockenson. That means there will be even more mouths for Darnold to feed. Only once this season has Addison been targeted more than four times during a game, and he has topped 50 yards only twice. As a rookie he found the end zone ten times and nearly surpassed 1,000 yards. Of course there was more opportunity due to the time Justin Jefferson missed, but this has been a disappointing turn of events.

It seems as though this weekend could be a coming out party for Addison this season. If that’s going to take place, then he’ll need to get his quarterback looking his way a bit more often.
