Vikings WR Jordan Addison Responds to Social Media Controversy
Jordan Addison has had quite the up and down 2024. The Minnesota Vikings sophomore wide receiver was arrested on DUI charges, during the summer, before spending two of the Vikings’ first three games injured.
And after one of the most productive rookie wide receiver seasons in franchise history, Addison hasn’t been all that noticeable when on the field this year, either. In 2023, the USC and Pitt product put up 911 yards and 10 TDs, on 70 receptions (17 games). TatumOliver
Jordan Addison explains “FREE 3” Instagram post
This year, Jordan has played 5 games, recording just 231 yards and 1 TD on 14 receptions, while struggling to stay on the field. All this, after a ROCKY offseason. So when Jordan Addison posted a photo on his Instagram story that was captioned “Free 3”, over the weekend, it had Minnesota Vikings fans arguing over its meaning.
Did he want out? Maybe he wants more involvement in the offense… Whatever it was, it didn’t seem positive. But on Monday, Jordan Addison addressed these rumors in a couple of different ways. He took to Instagram, where all of this got started. Then later, he met with media members and attempted to clear the air further.
Jordan Addison said in the locker room today that “Free 3” is a phrase he has used for years, that he had no subtle meaning with this weekend’s IG post and he has no issues with his role in the Vikings’ offense. “I’m straight,” he said. Moving on… https://t.co/daRtuk9183

Albeit, it was not great timing what @Vikings WR Jordan Addison posted the other day, it’s clear today that Addison was not referencing or hinting at that he wanted to be traded or out of Minnesota.

There was some chatter on social media, following Addison’s original post on his Instagram story, that “Free 3” was a catchphrase that he has used for a long time. Today, that is the explanation Jordan went with, too.

Maybe it’s true. He did have a necklace at the NFL Draft that put the saying into a logo. On the necklace, it was written “FR3E”. Believe Jordan, if you want. This is a free country, after all. But this supposed lifelong catchphrase has never been regularly used on his social medias, prior to his post over the weekend.
I also have media friends in the USC market who had never heard of “FREE 3” until this weekend. So… if it is a lifelong nickname or catchphrase, like he now claims, then it has never been very well known here, or at his collegiate stops.
Minnesota Vikings + Addison long-term future
Nonetheless, “FREE 3” was back at practice today, and seems to be ready and willing to contribute to the Minnesota Vikings cause, at least for now. At the end of the day, Jordan Addison probably knows what we know.

Longterm, the Vikings are unlikely to pay two premium wide receiver contracts. That means Addison’s time in MN will more than likely be limited. If he wants to cash in somewhere else, he’s going to need the ball more than he has gotten it recently. So no matter what Jordan is saying, this situation is worth monitoring going forward.
