Jordan Addison’s Dad is on Twitter Using Son’s (Not) New ‘Catchphrase’
Jordan Addison caused some drama recently when he took to Instagram and posted a photo of himself in full Minnesota Vikings uniform with the caption “FREE 3”. That, of course, set off a firestorm of social media and blog posts across the internet, attempting to decode the IG post. Was the Vikings’ sophomore wide receiver unhappy with his role in the head coach Kevin O’Connell’s offense?
A couple of days later, the 22-year-old USC alum ultimately dodged the controversy, taking to that same IG story to explain that the ‘catchphrase’ is something he started using while at Pittsburgh, before transferring to USC. Personally, I think Addison latched onto the “catchphrase” excuse, to avoid questions about why he is unhappy.
Really, there is very little knowledge that “FREE 3” was ever associated with Jordan, in any regular sort of way. He wore a version of the ‘catchphrase’ with a draft night necklace over two years ago, that read “FR3E”. And yes, the only other time FREE 3 has ever been mentioned by Addison on Instagram was 205 weeks ago (Nov. 2020), while he was at Pitt.
Jordan Addison’s dad tweets “FREE3”
His father, who is very active on Twitter (@RolandoAddison – X), has never used the caption or hashtag FREE3 either. Well, until recently, of course, when he retweeted a post with Jordan Addison’s 91.67% separation rate during week 8, the second-highest of any receiver in the NFL. He only caught two passes for 22 yards.

Here’s the thing. I do not blame Jordan Addison for being upset that he is not more involved in the Minnesota Vikings offense. He might be one of the most underutilized weapons in the NFL right now. In no world should Addison be averaging just 3.8 receptions and 52 yards per game.

What I hate is Jordan’s refusal to admit the real reason why he posted what he did. If you are unhappy enough to post about it on social media, then own up to it, when called out. His dad’s post, along with many other Rolando Addison Twitter posts recently, show that the Addison family wants to see more footballs thrown the way of No. 3. More than likely, those family members include Jordan Addison, himself.

Minnesota Vikings may have too many mouths to feed on offense
The problem in bumping up Jordan Addison’s targets? Kevin O’Connell’s offense is not running enough plays. Out of every team in the league, the Minnesota Vikings have run the fewest plays of anyone. When you have as many mouths to feed as this offense does, that makes it very difficult to provide for those playmakers.
Justin Jefferson is paid to be the best non-QB in the league, so he is going to get his. The Vikings offense does not run at its peak efficiency unless Aaron Jones is getting 20 touches per game too. Now, we are down to touches to spread between Addison, Jalen Nailor and now TJ Hockenson.

So… good luck to Jordan and his family the rest of this season, as it could be difficult for him to see the volume needed to be a star, which is clearly what he and his family believe he is. And I do not necessarily disagree.
