Jordan Addison’s Dad Sounds Off on Kevin O’Connell, Others After Vikings Loss

There’s no other way to put it, the Minnesota Vikings squandered a golden opportunity to do something the franchise hasn’t done since 1998, by finishing the regular season atop the NFC. Instead, they embarrassed themselves in week 18 against the Detroit Lions, falling 31-9 on national TV, in a moment the Vikings just did not appear ready for.

The Sam Darnold haters slept well last night, after the 27-year-old‘s Cinderella carriage finally turned into a pumpkin after 17 weeks of mostly miraculous performances. No doubt, it was the worst performance of Sam’s unbelievable year.

He completed just 18 of 41 passes (44%) for 166 yards and 0 touchdowns. In his defense (kind of), the Minnesota Vikings didn’t get in the endzone at all vs the Lions. So he wasn’t the only one struggling to find pay dirt.

Jordan Addison’s father angry on Twitter after Minnesota Vikings loss

It was an ugly game all around. Just ask Rolando Addison Sr, father of Vikings wide receiver, Jordan Addison. He took to Twitter Sunday night to voice his displeasures regarding the loss. Surprisingly, Darnold was not on his radar of blame.

Instead, he threw shade at just about everyone else, including his own son, who will turn 23-years-old later this month. Addison Sr also called out the Vikings defense and head coach Kevin O’Connell, who he says got outcoached by Lions HC Dan Campbell.

The penance for those named in Addison’s tweet: “Pushups on the plane ride back nonstop”. Rolando left his postgame tweet up for at least a few hours, but it has since been deleted. Unfortunately for him (fortunately for us), the internet never forgets…

Maybe Mr. Addison just forgot to include him, but the main reason why the Minnesota Vikings lost to the Detroit Lions was thanks to Sam Darnold’s week 18 choke job. Could his son have done more to get open or haul in footballs? Sure. And the defense could have played better.

But Sunday’s loss, and multiple failed chances to hit Jordan Addison for wide open touchdowns, fall on the shoulders of the Vikings’ bridge QB. The first came with just over 10 minutes remaining in the 2nd quarter. It’s the screenshot Addison Sr had in his tweet above.

Sam Darnold was Addison’s biggest problem vs Lions

The other came with just over 12 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. KOC picked a perfectly designed and well-timed Jordan Addison slant that was to be aided by Jalen Nailor doing his job, which was to get in the way of Lions cornerbacks trying to defend Addison’s slant. Those two receivers executed the play perfectly… but Darnold missed his window and an easy walk-in touchdown.

After adding just one reception for 0 yards (6 targets) Sunday vs the Lions, the Pittsburgh and USC alum finished his sophomore NFL season with 63 receptions for 875 yards and 9 touchdowns, just falling short of his rookie marks in all three categories (70 Rec | 911 Yds | 10 TD).

In 2023, Addison played all 17 games, starting 14. This season, he started all 15 games he played, but missed two games due to injury. If the Minnesota Vikings want to make any sort of run in the NFL Playoffs, they will need Jordan Addison to catch footballs. Whatever his dad needs to do, in order to make that happen, I’m on board. Even if it means a little internet bullying.
