Vikings Signing Former Texans EDGE Jonathan Greenard to $76 Million Contract
The Minnesota Vikings have signed Houston Texans EDGE rusher Jonathan Greenard to a $76 million, 4-year contract ($19M AAV) that includes $42 million in guarantees. The 26-year-old pass rusher led the Texans in sacks last season with 12.5 and he’s seen as one of the more talented young pass rushers in the NFL.

Greenard blew onto the scene in 2021, when he grabbed 8 sacks and recorded an incredible 82.9 defensive grade from PFF (89.2 pass rush grade). Injury issues drug him down in 2022, when he played 8 games and recorded only 1.5 sacks.
Greenard’s 12.5 sacks in 2023 stands as the sixth-highest total for a season in Texans franchise history. JJ Watt finished two of his seasons in Houston with 20.5, a third with 17.5 and another with 16. It is worth noting that 5.5 of Greenard’s 12.5 sacks last season came between weeks 13 and 15, right before he was injured and sat out for the last three games of the year.
Jonathan Greenard is a FA. Surprised the Texans haven't resigned him yet! Think he'd be a great fit opposite of Hutch. pic.twitter.com/3CsyHISJZn

We’ll see what happens next. Does this mean Danielle Hunter is gone? What about Christian Wilkins? We aren’t sure yet, but it appears the Vikings feel somewhat comfortable making moves in free agency before they have everything figured out at QB.
