Twins Sign Christian Vazquez
It’s not Carlos Correa, but the Minnesota Twins have made a huge move to finally kick off their 2022-2023 offseason by signing free agent catcher, Christian Vazquez. The deal is reportedly worth 3 years, $30 million ($10M/YR).

That doesn’t mean the significance should be downplayed. Vazquez was one of the top catchers on the market and the Twins had made it clear their intentions to sign him. It also tells us the Twins are still serious about building a roster that can compete in the AL Central this summer.
What to expect from Christian Vazquez
Christian Vazquez is 32 years old, has two World Series rings and he’s coming off yet another solid season where he hit .274, posting an OPS of .714 and a 2.1 WAR, according to Baseball Reference. He’s a plus defender, behind the plate, as well.
Expect Vazquez to take top catcher duties from Ryan Jeffers, who will still get about 1/3 of games if both players stay healthy.

Twins wanted to find a veteran to pair with Ryan Jeffers and made the 32-year-old Vázquez their top free-agent catcher target.
Average-ish hitter for the position, good defender, and durable.
