Another Big Market Team Reportedly Has Interest in Carlos Correa
Given how the Minnesota Twins have handled their 2024-25 offseason so far, trade chatter will follow their $35 million shortstop until he is suited up for them on Opening Day, come late March… probably longer.
That’s what happens when the owners of your new team decides — just one offseason after inking you long-term with the largest salary in franchise history — that they are pumping the brakes on the ‘win at all costs’ mantra that brought you to flyover country, in the first place.
So now, here we are. The Minnesota Twins — just one season removed from the deepest postseason run in two decades — are actively taking calls their only superstar, and bar-none the best and most playoff tested player. Gross, right?
Boston Red Sox interested in Carlos Correa
One team reportedly interested in Correa is the New York Yankees, after they lost out on Juan Soto. But on Tuesday, another AL East big market organization emerged with interest. According to Darren “Doogie” Wolfson, Yankees hated rival, the Boston Red Sox, and poking around on the 30-year-old.
“So one team that has interest, I’m led to believe, is the Boston Red Sox. You think about the Alex Cora connection. Bench coach in Houston with Carlos. Was his manager in the World Baseball Classic. The Boston Red Sox swing and miss. They were willing to pay Juan Soto enormous money. So keep an eye, I’m led to believe, probably one of a few teams.”

It was just a few years ago that the Twins and Red Sox were engaging top shortstops on the open market. Trevor Story appeared like a fit for Minnesota and signed with Boston. In the middle of the night, Carlos Correa chose the Twins. But that feels like a distant memory, at this point.
Minnesota Twins on verge of doing the unthinkable…?
Falvey has made it clear that the Twins are not looking to salary dump Correa, and the asking price to deal him is high. Nonetheless, they’ve made it clear he is available for the right price. That likely would include taking on most of Carlos’ remaining ~$125 million guaranteed and quality talent going back to Minnesota.

If they Minnesota Twins trade Carlos Correa, they are pretty much waving the white flag on being competetive anytime in the near future. There is no way to replace a team-best 4.3 fWAR in 2024, which he accrued playing less than 90 games on the season.
In limited action last summer, Correa posted a 152 OPS+ with 20 doubles, two triples, and 14 home runs. He is a proven superstar, still in his prime, something this team rarely rosters, especially out of free agency.

Moving him would almost assuredly result in negative value, and it would leave the Twins in a tough negotiating spot with future high-value free agents. But let’s be real, the Pohlads don’t care about that.
