The Minnesota Twins have yet to sign a major league free agent this offseason. That’s because the impending sale of the team has Derek Falvey strapped for resources.

They have signed a couple of minor league free agents though, and the goal has been to establish a level of internal depth. There still isn’t many answers when it comes to first base or a right-handed outfield bat, but pitching continues to pile up.

Jacob Bosiokovic signs with the Minnesota Twins

Minor league free agent, and former 19th round pick by the Colorado Rockies, Jacob Bosiokovic has agreed to a deal with the Minnesota Twins. Bosiokovic spent time at North Carolina’s Tread Athletics this offseason and transformed his abilities.

The developmental staff at Tread Athletics made quick work of the changes they suggested to Bosiokovic. His growth this offseason is another one of their success stories. They announced the signing on Instagram.

“Congrats to Jacob Bosiokovic on signing with the Minnesota Twins! Bosiokovic came to Tread in September, where a mocap analysis from a mid-90s bullpen revealed some mechanical inefficiencies that he and Matt Marsili were able to attack. Less than 4 months later, he was back up to the upper 90s and signed.”

Bosiokovic started in the Rockies organization as a hitter during the 2016 season but by 2019 had yet to advance past Single-A. He signed with St. Louis prior to the 2021 season and was pitching at Triple-A Memphis shortly thereafter.

His 5.56 ERA last season was largely a result of 35 walks across 55 innings. The strikeout stuff is legit as he posted 65, but he also allowed eight home runs. With stuff in the upper-90’s at this point, there is hope that Minnesota can unearth a usable arm after some time at Triple-A St. Paul.

Right now the Twins are projected to have one of the best bullpens in baseball. Griffin Jax and Jhoan Duran will anchor the back end, and Brock Stewart has been incredible when healthy. Last season injuries derailed the overall quality of the group though, and manager Rocco Baldelli will need fallback options once again.

Spring Training kicks off in just a matter of days, and the Minnesota Twins are now less than a month from their first Grapefruit League contest. Starting the season with a better bill of health as they leave Florida would be huge.
