Minnesota Twins’ Cruz Wins AL Player of the Week After Tormenting White Sox

With the first weekend of Major League Baseball down, the league has announced their Players of the Week. Or should we say Player of the Weekend? Either way, it is no surprise for the American League as Minnesota Twins’ DH Nelson Cruz wins it after hitting three home runs.

The Minnesota Twins designated hitter had himself a hell of an opening series against the White Sox. He hit three Bombas and drove in 10 RBI while also racking up seven hits and runs. Oh, throw in his absurd .538 average while slugging (1.385) with an OPS (1.956) too. Putting him as the league leader in home runs, RBI, hits, and runs. Have you heard he is 40 years old?

ELUDING FATHER TIME

It seems that the pandemic-induced hiatus hasn’t impacted Cruz in the slightest. He is currently on pace for 60 home runs, 200 RBI, and 140 runs in the truncated 60-game season.

He won’t continue on that pace, especially if the season is cancelled (thanks, Marlins), but for a 40 year old to just daddy opposing pitchers is a sight to behold. The only player to have had as successful an age-40 season was David Ortiz in 2016. Cruz can outdo him for the Minnesota Twins.

With a strict regimen focusing on recuperative sleep and purposeful workouts, along with plenty of naps, Cruz has found a way to elongate his career. Minnesota Twins fans are more than grateful for that this year. They want their first World Series title in nearly 30 years. As long as the season isn’t cancelled, Cruz should continue to be a menace for opposing teams.
