Jack Morris Finally Gets The Call He’s Been Waiting For – The HOF Call

St. Paul native, Jack Morris, will officially become a part of baseball’s most elite class.

It was announced on Sunday that Morris has been elected to MLB Hall of Fame. The hometown pitcher played 18 seasons in the majors. Only one of those was with the Twins organization. However, it may have been his most memorable:

On October 27, 1991 Jack Morris was able to grind his way to a TEN INNING complete game shutout. That’s absurd. If I toss a tennis ball for my dog a dozen times, I’m ready for a nap. An extra-inning shutout is impressive enough as it is.

When you consider it was Game 7 of the World Series, that’s when the performance becomes stuff of legends. Some Paul Bunyan shit. It was that October night that Morris became immortal inside these borders. Now, he will FINALLY join fellow St. Paul natives, Paul Molitor and Dave Winfield, as immortal in eyes of ALL of baseball.

The now 62 year-old spent the vast majority of his career pitching for Detroit. Out of his 254 career wins, 198 of them came in a Tigers uniform. During the 1980s no pitcher started more games, won more games or, pitched more innings than the 5x All-Star. He has three additional World Series rings to accompany the jewelry from 1991 (1984 Tigers, 1992-1993 Blue Jays).

Jack Morris Career Stats:

The enshrinement itself will take place on July 29th, 2018. Joining Morris will be his teammate of 13 seasons, Alan Trammell. They were voted into the hall by the “Modern Era Committee.” To learn more about this wrinkle in the HOF induction process, click here: Modern Era Committee.

Upon hearing the good news, Jack Morris had this to say:

“The time that I’ve spent wondering if this day would ever come seems to be vanished and erased right now because it did come, and it’s amazing.”

Congratulations Jack! You earned it.

Thank you for everything you’ve done for Minnesota. Most of all, your performance in the 1991 World Series. Our current 26 year championship drought sounds a heck of a lot better than the alternate of 30+.
