Carlos Correa was hit by two pitches on Thursday. The Minnesota Twins also suffered their second-straight loss. Correa remained in the game after he was beaned in the 5th. But it was the 7th inning, he wasn’t so lucky.

Correa thought both pitches were going to break away from him, but instead, they rode up and in. The first time around, he took it in the wrist. Wasn’t pretty, but no real harm done. In the 7th, however, the two-time All Star and former Rookie of the Year wasn’t so lucky.
That’s because it wasn’t Correa’s wrist that took contact this time. It was an 81 MPH misplaced slider that made direct contact with a more fragile location. His middle finger. The ensuing play was ruled a batted ball and ended the inning. Correa was immediately pulled from the contest and the initial didn’t yield hopeful results.
From the #MNTwins on Carlos Correa:

“Preliminary imaging does reveal the potential for a non-displaced fracture of the right middle finger.“
X-Ray shows it’s possibly broken. CT scan tomorrow to confirm.
If Carlos Correa’s fracture is a non-displaced fracture. he likely wouldn’t require surgery.

The read off the X-ray is it’s potentially a non-displaced fracture. But the #MNTwins and Correa won’t know more until he has a CT scan tomorrow.
Pets Heads Are Falling Off
The Minnesota Twins, who had won 11 of their last 12 games entering Wednesday, suddenly appear in trouble. They’ve lost two-straight and had already lost Luis Arraez, Dylan Bundy and Rocco Baldelli to the “sickness that must not be named” list. It appears imminent that Carlos Correa to the injured list is the next domino to drop.
We should have more clarity on Friday but early Twitter doctors are calling for weeks, not months, on the injured list. Multiple Twins beat writers have already calling for top prospect Royce Lewis to get a call-up, should more thorough testing on Correa confirm these initial scans.
With Correa going down, Royce Lewis, the #MNTwins No. 1 prospect, is the only middle infielder left on the 40-man roster.

Lewis is crushing Triple-A with a .310/.430/.563 line through 24 games, with 3 homers, 11 doubles, 8 steals and nearly as many walks (17) as strikeouts (20).
If Carlos Correa is out with a broken middle finger — he got hit with a pitch in Baltimore tonight — you can't help but notice #MNTwins Royce Lewis is hitting .310/.430/.563 with 11 doubles and three homers at Triple-A St. Paul.

Lewis has been tearing up his competition at AAA St. Paul so the call-up would make sense. He’s hitting over .310 with a .993 OPS. But miracles can happen, right? So until tomorrow’s tests come back, I’ll be here praying to the baseball gods.
