Did Nelson Cruz Hit Two Grand Slams in One At-Bat vs Tigers?

Minnesota Twins Designated Hitter, Nelson Cruz, is still very good at the game of baseball. That much can be confirmed after just three at-bats on Monday afternoon vs the Detroit Tigers. Cruz rifled a 110 MPH shot right at the 3rd baseman in his first at-bat of the season. That must have made him mad because he’s followed with two (possibly three) home runs since.

Boomstick came came up again in the 3rd inning with the bases loaded and bashed a high fastball to the opposite field. It was deep enough and it was high enough… but was it fair? The umpires ruled it a foul ball, even after replay review. But wow, after watching the slow-motion replay it at least 50 times, I’m almost pretty much convinced that this ball hit the pole and should have been fair.

Don’t be upset, though. It didn’t matter. When Nelson Cruz decides he’s going to hit a baseball over the fence, there isn’t a pitcher or baseball god who’s going to stop him. I’m starting to doubt Father Time in his battle with Cruz too, who will be 41 this season.

But Nelson Cruz wasn’t done after his 3rd inning grand slam(s). His next time up, Boomstick went deep again. The Twins are running away with this one, leading 11-0 in the 5th inning.

Nothing like just missing a grand slam, only to mash one on the next pitch.

Some bad news…

Not everything today is lollipops and rainbows in Minnesota Twins world. They’re looking like a really good baseball team but they’ve been struck by another mid-game injury disappearance from one of their best players. In game one, it was Josh Donaldson leaving for a “tight hamstring” after his first at-bat. Now, he’s on the 10-day injured list. In game three, Byron Buxton left the game with a non-COVID related illness that pushed him out of today’s lineup.

Now today, Luis Arraez left the game after he showed pain in his second at-bat of the day. He stayed in, took a walk and scored later in the inning. But he never re-emerged from the dugout to play defense. We’ll keep you posted.

Luis Arraez is out of the game with an apparent injury after Rocco Baldelli and trainer Michael Salazar came out to look at him last inning. Arraez initially stayed in the game, drawing a walk and coming around to score. But now Willians Astudillo has replaced him at third base.
