Twins Call Up Proven Big League Reliever Who’s Been Dominating in St. Paul
The Minnesota Twins are sending Cody Funderburk down to Triple A, after he posted a 5.18 ERA in 24.1 innings out of the bullpen this season. The corresponding move is a call-up of right-handed reliever Diego Castillo, an MLB veteran who has been dominant out of the St. Paul bullpen this season.
Apparently, there are some travel issues getting him from upper New York, back to the Twin Cities. The move won’t be announced officially until he can be in the dugout and clubhouse for the game.
There is no move yet because they're not quite sure when he'll arrive, but Diego Castillo is on the way to join the #MNTwins. He has a 2.50 ERA and 22 strikeouts in 18 innings at Triple A.

Castillo has pitched 18 innings for the Saints this season, compiling 22 strikeouts to just 6 walks, good for a 2.50 ERA and 1.06 WHIP. He was relegated to minor league status after a dreadful 2023 season nearly derailed one of the top up-and-coming bullpen careers in baseball.
Minnesota Twins call up veteran relief pitcher, Diego Castillo
Castillo has pitched 268 very successful big league innings. He holds an impressive 3.22 ERA, 128 ERA+, 1.099 WHIP and 3.81 FIP. Prior to his derailment in 2023 season, he was even better. But Castillo’s problems were bubbling in 2022, when some of his more advanced metrics were already dropping off.

Then, “The Human Rain Delay” was suddenly slapped with a pitch clock, which could not have helped whatever issues he was dealing with. His walks skyrocketed, along with his ERA.

But, all of those issues appear to be behind him. And if he really is back to pitching like the guy he once was, he could immediately make the Minnesota Twins’ bullpen a lot better.
And they need that part of their team to be better, if they are going to have any chance of catching the leaders in the AL Central, which is suddenly one of the best divisions in baseball. Before landing in the Twins organization, Diego Castillo was raised by the Rays, then played his last three years with the Mariners org.
