The Minnesota Timberwolves came into the season with a substantially different look following the trade of Karl-Anthony Towns. They could look substantially different by the trade deadline if Julius Randle is moved to a new destination. They are continuing to look for roster upgrades and the guard position presents an opportunity.
A new guard for Minnesota Timberwolves rotation
Chris Finch has been a mixed bag as the Timberwolves head coach this season. He has leaned heavily on veteran guard Mike Conley, while doing little to get emerging talent Rob Dillingham in the game. Anthony Edwards has regressed due to the configuration around him, and better shooting could help the rotation as a whole. Enter Lonnie Walker IV.
Lonnie Walker IV is drawing NBA interest and can be bought out of his Žalgiris contract in the EuroLeague by any NBA team until Feb. 18.

NBA Insider Marc Stein is among the most clued in sources throughout the league. His recent report tabs the Timberwolves as a potential suitor for the former first round pick.
Walker IV was drafted 18th overall by the San Antonio Spurs in 2018. He spent the first four seasons of his career there, and topped out with a 12.1 points per game average during 2021-22. He shot 42% from the field the year prior and had a 40.6% three-point percentage in 2019-20.

The Lakers and Nets both took chances on Walker IV after he left San Antonio, but he didn’t find a long-term home at either spot. After a brief stint with Boston during training camp, he decided to go overseas rather than the G-League.
I’m only 25 🙏🏾 all in due time ! The marathon continues. I know the stars will align. Self belief is the best belief. All apart of the story. Stay tuned ⏰

After betting on himself this fall, Walker IV has earned interest while averaging 14.7 points per game on 43.7% shooting. He has played in 11 games and shown solid ballhandling skills while not ceding many turnovers.

It remains difficult to think Finch would be willing to add another player into the rotation. Still, if there’s a way to shuffle the group, then Walker IV could be part of that. So far the Timberwolves have underachieved this season, but have won three straight as of late.
