Have the Minnesota Timberwolves Figured Things Out?
The Minnesota Timberwolves have had a bit of an up-and-down start to the season, sitting at 14-11. While they have fallen short of expectations so far, there is still plenty of time to turn things around. That said, this month has definitely shown some encouraging signs of improvement.
You could make a case that the Timberwolves have been the best team in the NBA through December so far. With a 5-1 record, they’ve also got the numbers to back it up.
Are the Minnesota Timberwolves back?
So far this month, the Minnesota Timberwolves have been on fire, racking up a 5-1 record, good enough for the second best of the month, trailing only the Cleveland Cavaliers at 6-1. On top of that, the Timberwolves have dominated defensively, leading the league in Defensive Rating (DRTG) and ranking second in Net Rating (NetRTG).

This is a major turning point for the Minnesota Timberwolves. After some early concerns from fans, the team has responded in a big way and looks completely locked in now. You can trace this shift back to November 27th, when Anthony Edwards called out his teammates for their lack of defense following a tough loss to the Kings.
Since losing to the Kings, the Timberwolves have been locking it down on defense. In six of their last seven games, they’ve held opponents to under 92 points, and they won all six of those games. The only loss in that stretch came when they gave up 114 points to the Warriors. This team has been incredibly consistent on the defensive end through December.

Before the Timberwolves held the Clippers to 92 points or less on November 29, they hadn’t managed that in any of their first 23 games this season. Now, they are once again looking like the scary-good Wolves team we all know and love.
Let’s see just how much longer the Timberwolves can keep this momentum going. If they can finish the month strong, they might just put themselves right back in the championship conversation.
