The Minnesota Timberwolves, with a 28-23 record and battling for a top 5 Western Conference spot, are managing several injuries. With the trade deadline today, there was speculation about potential roster moves.

With Julius Randle sidelined for weeks and his performance this season, a major trade seemed unlikely. As the 2 o’clock CST deadline passed, the Timberwolves opted to maintain their current roster. However, there are indications they were aiming for a blockbuster move that would’ve stunned the league, again.

Just a few hours after the trade deadline passed, many Timberwolves fans were left feeling disappointed. It set in that this is the roster for the rest of season. However, NBA insider Chris Haynes just revealed that the Timberwolves had actually attempted to trade for Kevin Durant in a blockbuster deal.

Pairing a future Hall of Famer, MVP, and Finals MVP like Kevin Durant with Anthony Edwards would’ve formed a lethal duo for the Minnesota Timberwolves. However, it remains unclear what the team would’ve had to sacrifice to make this dream duo a reality.

At 36, Durant’s age is a significant factor; Tim Connelly might understandably hesitate to trade young talent for a player possibly nearing the end of his career.

But despite that, Durant is still playing at an elite level, putting up 26.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game. He would’ve been a great addition as another top-tier scorer alongside Edwards. We can only dream of the highlight reels we would have gotten had the trade been made.
