Anthony Edwards is the Ultimate Teammate After Game-Winner vs Rockets
This offseason, the Minnesota Timberwolves decided they needed to trade Karl-Anthony Towns in order to keep their future luxury tax situation from getting completely out of hand. 30 games in, their experiment season has been quite the rollercoaster.
But they’ve now won two-straight, including a big win vs a really good Houston Rockets team on Friday night, thanks to a last second game-winner by Anthony Edwards. Their 23-year-old superstar finished with 24 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists.

Minnesota Timberwolves need all of Anthony Edwards
On the season Edwards has averaged 25.3 points per game while shooting 44.5% from the field, both slightly lower than his career averages. His 9.9 three-pointers per game, however, are a career-high. So too is the 41.8% rate in which he is hitting them at.
Understandably, the Minnesota Timberwolves have struggled to find their footing, post Karl-Anthony Towns. They miss the way he glued their locker room together, both on and off the court.
One thing that would help the process is Anthony Edwards stepping up in the leadership department. And after his game-winner last night, we saw him do just that, praising his teammates throughout his entire postgame interview. This is Ant at his best.

“Shoutout to my teammates man. Couldn’t have did it without them, man…. We got some stops, we made some big shots, and ya know, we made a big shot at the end right there. All I knew was the play was for Ju (Julius Randle) to go 14, big-small pick and roll, once he picked it up, I mean who else? I gotta go get it… Shit, I’m going for the win. Like Gilbert Arenas said, I don’t do overtime, so fuck it.”
Anthony Edwards on the game winner for Minnesota
It was a tough start for Minnesota, who entered the matchup as a half-point underdog. For whatever reason, head coach Chris Finch continues to ignore talented rookie Rob Dillingham. So far, the 2024-25 Timberwolves have failed to fulfill preseason expectations, after making a Western Conference Finals run last summer.

But they are playing better this week, than they did last week. And that’s progress. Moments like Friday’s game-winner can swing the momentum of a season.
