It’s almost certain that the Minnesota Timberwolves will make a semi-significant move, at some point before the trade deadline on February 8th. They’ve shown the last few weeks just how badly they need another shooter and stabilizing veteran ball-handler capable of breaking into one of the best rotations in the NBA.

With less than a week remaining, NBA rumors are swirling about potential trades and team interests. The Timberwolves have been connected to several players who could boost their championship aspirations. Here’s a summary of what players have been linked to Minnesota so far.

Seven Players Linked to Minnesota Timberwolves So Far

The names of these players have been mentioned by NBA insiders, but no deals have come close to fruition. They are simply players who could potentially fit well with the Timberwolves. Here’s a breakdown of each player and the sources of speculation. We’ve covered most of these players recently as we’ve been monitoring different updates.

Tyus Jones

Tyus Jones is enjoying a standout season in Washington DC with a disaster Wizards team, and considering the Timberwolves need for a backup point guard to support Mike Conley, reports linking the Jones to Minnesota shouldn’t come as a surprise.

Just yesterday, however, local insider Darren Wolfson (SKOR North) expressed doubt about the Timberwolves ability to afford Tyus. If his cost comes down as the deadline approaches, the Wolves certainly have interest in reuniting with the Apple Valley native.

Doug McDermott

Doug McDermott’s contract presents challenges in trade negotiations, but he’s a sharpshooting wing that the Wolves have very high interest in, per multiple reports. It’s very reasonable to think Dougie McBuckets hits the buyout market.

But if they pursue a trade for the Creighton legend, it’s likely they’d need to part with a key rotation player, such as Kyle Anderson, instead of one of the bench players they’re actively shopping on the trade market (Troy Brown, Shake Milton). McDermott is arguably the best sharpshooter they’ve been linked to and someone they’ve clearly pinned at the top of their deadline wish list.

Monte Morris

Monte Morris recently made his season debut for the Detroit Pistons after starting the year nursing an injury. The Pistons currently hold the worst record in the National Basketball Association, and they’re looking for as much future talent as they can find for Morris. If Tim Connelly decides on a trade, Morris is one of the most likely names to watch, according to recent reports.

Malcolm Brogdon

Minnesota was linked to Trail Blazers guard Malcolm Brogdon a few weeks back, but rumors linking the two have simmered of late. Brogdon would boost the team’s shooting and backup point guard needs, in one player. Acquiring Brogdon, who is on a pricey contract, won’t be cheap on the asset front either. But there’s no doubt the Blazers guard would fit exactly what the Timberwolves need.

Gordan Hayward

Gordan Hayward’s substantial contract with the struggling Charlotte Hornets might prompt them to consider parting ways with the 33-year-old forward, who could seek to join a contender such as the Timberwolves. Hayward remains a solid player in the league and could potentially become an option for the Minnesota Timberwolves, perhaps through the buyout market.

Kyle Lowry

Kyle Lowry, recently traded from the Miami Heat to the Charlotte Hornets, is unlikely to see game time with his new team. The Hornets might explore trading Lowry, but given his unappealing contract, a buyout scenario is more probable, allowing him to become a free agent. Lowry could attract interest from contenders, and the Timberwolves could consider reaching out. Despite being 37, he has still played solid basketball this season.

Bones Hyland

In a report released earlier by Yahoo’s Jake Fischer, it’s suggested that Bones Hyland could be a potential option for the Timberwolves. Hyland previously played under Tim Connelly for the Denver Nuggets. Despite limited playing time this season, the 23-year-old has displayed glimpses of significant potential. Acquiring Hyland could prove to be an intriguing move for the Timberwolves.

As the trade deadline approaches, the Timberwolves are considering these seven players. It’s unclear who they’ll choose or if they’ll make any player deals. Watching their decisions unfold will be interesting.

Alec Burks

After the initial report by Yahoo Sports, HoopsHype reported that sources told them the Timberwolves have also expressed interest in Alec Burks. Burks would be a veteran option for the Timberwolves that has averaged 12.8 points per game for the lowly Pistons this season, per Pro Basketball Reference. It would be a solid depth addition for the Timberwolves heading into the second part of the season.

Delon Wright

The same report has the Timberwolves also expressing interest in Wizards guard Delon Wright. Wright only averages 4.4 points per game, per Pro Basketball Reference this season and I’m not sure how much time exactly he would see on the court if the Timberwolves were to make the move. The Wolves backcourt needs help but Wright would have to earn his minutes over the other guards on this roster.
