The Minnesota Timberwolves are fresh off one of the most daunting stretches of their schedule that they will have all season, a 18-game gauntlet that included 15 opponents with +.500 records.

But they came out on the other end with an 11-7 record and capped it off with a 2-game win streak that assured their spot atop the Western Conference entering this week, even if only by one game.

Chris Finch, Minnesota Timberwolves feeling good

And now, Chris Finch & Co. are looking ahead to a much easier run of games in which six of of their eight opponents have sub-.500 records. Some of which are the worst in the NBA: Pistons (4-36), Grizzlies without Morant (15-25), Wizards (7-32), Hornets (8-29) and Spurs (7-32).

So there’s no wonder Chris Finch is feeling a lot of good vibes coming from his team the last couple days. How many good vibes? Finchy went as far as to say that the Wolves “have their mojo back”. I’d argue they never really lost it but I like that their head coach has higher expectations than I do.

“A couple weeks ago we were pretty fatigued, you know, a lot of things going on: travel, holidays, tough schedule all that. Guys feel feel fresher right now. It feels like we have our mojo back, in a lot of different ways, which is important to us. We have a three and four here, so it’s important for us as coaches to make sure that we keep them in the right kind of pace, to be able to play those games fresh. But it feels like it’s pretty good right now”

The (28-11) Minnesota Timberwolves are nearly halfway done with their regular season schedule and they have a fully healthy team that is playing well and looking forward to a much easier stretch of their schedule, It’s easy to see why the mood is light right now at Mayo Clinic Square.

Concerns of overconfidence…?

In past years, I’d be concerned that the Wolves were going to walk into this easier stretch of games feeling overconfident, ripe for a couple of ‘how in the fu..’ losses that would come back to bite them down the road. But… that is not what we’ve seen from this 2023-24 squad so far. So, I’ll remain positive.

As long as Minnesota continues to play like it has all season, there’s no reason to think they can’t push their already gawdy record to something crazy by the All-Star break in mid-February.
