MSF Daily – 8/2/17

Wild agree to terms with Granlund on extension:

The Wild had some big question marks going into the offseason this year. Two big ones were the contracts of Nino Niederreiter and Mikael Granlund. Over the last few days, the Wild have answered those questions. Today, Mikael Granlund got a 3 year extension with $17.25 Million.

Darren Wolfson confirms that Wiggins is NOT on the table but Cavs want him:

Here is our updated Kyrie Irving take. People like to burn x-player jerseys apparently.

Here are Wolfson’s tweets:

Timberwolves make 2 bench-depth signings Tuesday:

The Timberwolves added Anthony Brown (StarTribune) and Melo Tremble (BleacherReport) today in some under-the-radar moves.  The moves add much-needed bench depth at the guard positions.

If you are a Gopher Basketball fan then you may recognize Tremble as he played guard for Maryland in college.

Twins activate Byron Buxton and call up Dillon Gee:

Today the twins called up both Byron Buxton (rehab assignment) and Dillon Gee to fill roster spots vacated by dealing Brandon Kintzler and Jamie Garcia at the trade deadline.

Buxton went 5-12 in his rehab assignment (MiLB.com) with 2 home runs. The Twins will be happy to have him back in the outfield but will have to deal with finding playing time for all four everyday outfielders.

Gee is likely an interim guy who has a 3.23 ERA this year in AAA.

Twins Play late in San Diego to kick off 2-game series:

The Twins lost 3-0 to the San Diego Padres on Tuesday night. On the bright side, they didn’t give up a lead…

Chacin and Berrios were both dealing but the Padres found a way to squeeze a run through, with a SAC Fly, in the 6th. That’s all they would need. After the 7th Berrios was pinch hit for and removed from the game. Austin Hedges would hit a 2 run bomb off his replacement, Alan Busenitz, in the 8th to go up 3-0. That’s how it would finish.
Berrios took another step forward Tuesday but the Twins, as a whole, take another step back.
Also: Buxton was back Tuesday night. He is still fast.
Coach Fleck on ESPNU tonight:
PJ Fleck is trying to get eyes on the Gopher Football team. He isn’t afraid to turn eyes to him in order to do that. Wednesday, at 8 PM CT, Fleck’s new 4-piece special will air on ESPNU. The episodes will run an hour. It is an inside look into PJ Fleck.
Fleck is an interesting person and people all over the country are intrigued by him. This is a great way for young people all over the country to see the “M” logo in a place you normally wouldn’t.
Here is more from Joe Christensen in Wednesday’s Star Tribune.
