NFL World Reacts to Joshua Dobbs 4 Interception Reality Check vs Bears

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Joshua Dobbs threw four interceptions against the Chicago Bears during Monday night’s brutal loss. It was the first time Dobbs has been picked off four times in a game, both in college and the NFL.

Joshua Dobbs throws 4 interceptions on Monday Night Football

Just over three weeks into his tenure as a quarterback in Minnesota, the euphoria that came with Dobbs’ initial success with the Vikings has now given in to reality setting in following Monday’s ugly 12-10 loss.

Dobbs’ first interception came on a pass intended for rookie wide receiver Jordan Addison in the opening quarter. It was about as ugly as it gets.

A veteran NFL quarterback should know better than to throw late and to the outside into double coverage. Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson had an easy time intercepting it.

Dobbs’ second pick was not necessarily his fault, though the timing between him and Addison was clearly off on this throw.

Sure, Dobbs probably shouldn’t have thrown a fastball in that situation. But Addison needs to come away with the catch. If he did, that would have been a big gainer for a sputtering Minnesota offense.

Then, with Minnesota down 6-3 late in the third quarter, Joshua Dobbs threw an interception into the hands of linebacker T.J. Edwards. This one was definitlely his fault.

There were roughly a half-dozen Bears players in the area of this pass, which was intended for K.J. Osborn. Needless to say, the decision-making process was not there from Dobbs here, as he locked on to one specific target.

The fourth interception represented a comedy of errors between Dobbs, the play call, the blocking… and everything in between. It was bad. Really, really bad.

Dobbs, 28, was a journeyman heading into the 2023 season. He was acquired by the Arizona Cardinals from the Cleveland Browns ahead of Week 1, starting eight games in the desert. Once Kirk Cousins went down with a season-ending Achilles’ injury back in Week 8, the Vikings pounced on the opportunity to acquire him.

In no way was he expected to be the savior in Minnesota. But Dobbs really didn’t give the Vikings much to work with on Monday night, as the team fell to 6-6 on the season, via an ugly home loss to Chicago.

In what has been a theme throughout Dobbs career and the 2023 season, it was all about the ups and downs. After throwing four interceptions, the former Tennessee star led Minnesota down the field on a 77-yard drive.

It culminated in a touchdown pass to T.J. Hockenson to give Minnesota a 10-9 lead with under six minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.

Unfortunately, Minnesota’s defense could not hold as Justin Fields led Chicago down the field for the game-winning field goal. In short, the Vikes just couldn’t overcome Dobbs’ four interceptions. It’s no surprise given that NFL teams are 1-63 since 2014 when their quarterback throws four interceptions.

Reactions were all over the place, too.
