There’s a lot of flux within the Minnesota Gophers men’s basketball program right now. The elephant is no longer sitting in the middle of campus. Richard Pitino has been dismissed as head coach and found a soft landing spot at the University of New Mexico. Now, eyes turn to their coaching search and the current roster of players. What will this roster of talented kids decide to do in a world where transfering is as easy as filling out an online form.
One person who’s already made his decision is Jarvis Omersa, who “opted out” halfway through the 2020-21 season. Omersa’s name is in the transfer portal today. Jarvis is from Orono, MN and came in the same class as Gabe Kalscheur and Daniel Oturu.

This transfer portal entry isn’t a surprise but that doesn’t mean others won’t follow. That’s why Mark Coyle made it clear in his press conference today, that they will not waste any time on hiring the next head coach. That’s what he told the players too.
We’ll see how quickly things move and what happens with others on the roster. I’m sure guys like Gabe and Liam are getting DM’s and text messages from across the country as you read this.
