After Successful Weekend, PJ Fleck’s 2021 Recruiting Class Suffers Blow Monday with Big Decommitment

It’s not often you see a player decommit from Minnesota, but that is exactly what happened today as 2021 Gophers commit Albert Regis announced he has decommitted from Minnesota.

Regis, a defensive line recruit, decommitted from the Gophers less than 24 hours after the Gophers received two new 2021 commits. Regis, from La Porte (TX) High School, originally committed to the Gophers on April 29th over the likes of Tennessee, Baylor, TCU, and others.

He’s been gaining major steam on the national recruiting trail lately. Many who follow football recruiting closely, were seeing signs of a possible decommitment over the last week, when he started taking Minnesota recruiting pictures and bio’s off of social media.

He had this to say on why he originally committed to Minnesota:

“I just loved how they treated me like a human being. All the excitement they bring and how they win on and off the field all the time, the bonding the coaches and players have, that genuinely means a lot to me,” Regis said. “They just prepare you for everything, and I respect that, because not all colleges would do that. Some don’t show a lot of care outside of football. They show care in football and off the field.”

If there’s anything we Gophers fans know about P.J Fleck, it’s that P.J’s going to find a way to make Regis reconsider his decision. Sam Jackson, another 2021 recruit, has committed twice to the Gophers, after needing time to confirm the Twin Cities as the place he wanted to be. Could Albert do the same? I wouldn’t put it past PJ Fleck.
