Former Minnesota Gophers Basketball Player Signed by the… Indianapolis Colts?
You might remember Jack Wilson, the center for the Minnesota Gophers basketball team from last season. He only played one year with the team, but he’s already graduated and decided to switch things up. Now, he’s going pro in another sport he played at the collegiate level. Football.
Wilson, who transferred into Dinkytown for the 2023-24 men’s basketball season, has had quite the sports journey and it has taken him all over the country. He started off playing basketball at Oregon State before making his way to Idaho for a season (still basketball).
After his time at Idaho, however, the 6’10”, 300 lb behemoth landed at Washington State University. There, not only did he play basketball, but from 2021 to 2022, he played on the football team too. From Washington State, he travelled to the University of Minnesota for one season, where he only played basketball.

But most recently, he’s trying to play football again. It must be going pretty well, because Wednesday he signed on with the Indianapolis Colts practice squad, as an offensive tackle.
We have signed T Jack Wilson to the practice squad and released K Spencer Shrader from the practice squad.

With Ben Johnson’s 2023-24 group, Jack Wilson appeared in seven games, scoring a total of 11 points and grabbing six rebounds. He (surprise) was a foul machine, committing 11 fouls in just 30 minutes of play. That’s probably why Jack went back to football.

Wilson’s journey feels like something out of a kid’s dream. He’s played college football and basketball, so it’ll be interesting to see if he can make it onto the 53-man roster someday while showcasing his freak athlete skills on the football field.
