Gophers Add Grad-Transfer DT from Notre Dame for 2019

If you think PJ is ready to make more mentions about his young team or that he’d be ok with a losing season in 2019, you’ve just been proven wrong. I don’t think a Defensive Tackle, currently playing at Notre Dame, would be coming to Minnesota if he thought a lot of losing would be in his future.

What an offseason for this Minnesota Gopher defensive line… 2 of their top 3 signees in this top-35 class are defensive tackles and 5 of their top 13 signees are on the defensive line.

This signing also helps us read between the lines on one thing. OJ Smith, who seems to be struggling with serious concussion issues, may not play his senior year. I don’t know if PJ Fleck makes this move if he were confident that OJ would play all season at a high level. Smith only got to play in 6 games this season because of injury issues. He transferred from Alabama in 2017.

The Gophers are left with 1 scholarship for 2019 and it looks like these two are the most likely. You’ll remember, this spot was already claimed by Kristian Williams until he didn’t sign his letter of intent at the last moment. Ryan Burns of GopherIllustrated.com does mention in the GI message board that it’s possible the Gophers could still land both Williams and Barlow…

ICYMI:

The Gophers got another transfer commit yesterday from a big football school. Randal Grimes comes from USC. He will have to sit for 2019 and then he will have 2 years to play after that. He was a 4-star coming out of high school. Wide Receiver is another position that is getting bulked up under PJ Fleck.

If you want to get good quarterbacks then find good wideouts for them to throw to.

Lastly, we expected Tyler Johnson to be back for 2019 but he all but cofirmed it yesterday via Twitter. I can’t wait for the season to start….
