Andrew Wiggins is an Embarrassment and We Need to Demand More

Before we dive into another putrid performance by Andrew Wiggins last night vs the Suns, when he and KAT were bailed out by a Derrick Rose buzzer-beater to sneak past the worst team in the NBA, I want to first go back to earlier in the weekend when the Wolves were beat at home by the San Antonio Spurs.

While he sat and drifted his way through a couple of possessions, showing zero desire to earn his massive game check, Doris Burke undressed Andrew Wiggins on national TV in an utterly perfect snapshot of his NBA career.

ICYMI, here it is:

She’s so much nicer than I am.

Andrew Wiggins is a fucking disaster right now. I can’t even watch games without wanting to throw objects through my TV. If you’ve read me before, you probably know that I can’t afford anymore TV’s. I’m throwing things through them way too often. It’s a fucking hazard.

I should start sending the new TV invoices to those who cause my tantrums. That’s the world we’re living in now anyway right? Point your finger at everyone but yourself?

Right now, I’m giving you the green light on blaming anything you want on Andrew Wiggins. Did you run out of gas? Andrew Wiggins. Late to work? Andrew Wiggins. Forget to do the dishes and your wife is upset? Andrew Wiggins. Did you cheat on your wife? Andrew Wiggins.

A month+ of coddling Andrew hasn’t helped after 2+ season of Thibs’ yelling caused clear regression as well. So what is going to make Andrew Wiggins great again? I worry that his only chance at a “success story” is a future on a bad team, where he is the twam’s number 1 option.

If he isn’t the guy the offense is running through then he will get lost in the fray. Before, it was Jimmy Butler + Karl Towns that muted Andrew Wiggins and rendered him invisible on a nightly basis. Now, an emerging Derrick Rose is that aggressive second piece that allows Wiggins to sit in the corner like this while Rose hits the game-winner last night vs the Suns.

And the game-winner wasn’t the only time that Wiggins could be seen picking his fingernails in the corner of the court while he lets his teammates do the work he is being paid for… Here are a few more. Find Wiggins. He’ll be the guy doing nothing.

People, you can go back to almost any play of almost any game and find this to be the narrative on Wiggins over and over and over again. I am NOT telling you to watch Andrew Wiggins all of the time during Wolves’ possessions because I don’t want you to destroy your TV or build a nagging hatred for watching Timberwolves’ games.

What I am telling you, is that the Wolves will not be any good until we get rid of Andrew Wiggins OR (and this can definitely still happen) he gets slapped in the face with reality and realizes he needs to do more. Maybe Wiggins can grow up and realize that we want and need him to be more selfish and more aggressive.

A “come to Jesus moment” is really the only hope we have because Wiggins is probably here to stay for most of his gruesome contract..
